NEW DELHI, FEB. 22 . The Outer Delhi Member of Parliament, Sajjan Kumar, today said that a decision had been taken to undertake the detailed project report for extension of Metro Rail from Sector-9 to Sector-22 in Dwarka and from Rithala to Narela passing through Bawana in North-West Delhi. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Kumar said the Union Urban Development Secretary, Anil Baijal, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chairman, E. Shreedharan, had agreed to the proposals and instructions had been issued to prepare the detailed project reports for the same. This decision would go a long way in mitigating the problems of the residents of these areas and also provide connectivity to the new industrial township at Bawana with the entire Capital. Mr. Kumar said Mr. Baijal asked the concerned officials to prepare the feasibility report of these projects as soon as possible. The 2.5- km area between Sector-9 and Sector-22 in Dwarka is thickly populated and with the extension of the Metro Rail it would be a boon to the area. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has agreed to bear the expenditure on the extension of this project. Further, he said that the Metro Rail presently terminates at Rithala. Now that the areas in Bawana and Narela were being developed as industrial areas, it was important that a proper means of transportation was provided to the residents. He said Mr. Baijal had agreed to his suggestion for extension of Metro Rail from Rithala to Narela and a project report was being prepared in this connection. The line would further extend to Bawana also. He also disclosed that Najafgarh was also an important township in the Outer Delhi area and this area was inhabited by a large number of unauthorised colonies and urbanised villages and therefore it would be appropriate if the Metro line is extended to Najafgarh.
