Brooms offered to deity to preserve hair

PARAVUR, FEB. 22. In a rare ritual, seeking blessings to have long and thick hair and maintain its beauty, hundreds of women offered `brooms' to the presiding deity of Kalikulangara Devi

temple near here in Ernakulam district.

In line with the age-old beliefs, women cleaned the temple premises with the brooms and offered the same before the deity `Muthi,' beginning this year's rituals on Monday.

The offering was made for long, black and thick hair, to keep greying at bay and help reduce loss of hair.

Some devotees prepared the brooms at their homes, while others preferred to purchase them from the temple itself.

The offering can be made till February 24, the festival day. — UNI
