Surprise omission
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
FEB. 22.
There was something strange why three Telugu Desam MLAs were not suspended from the Assembly in spite of staging a dharna near the Speaker's podium on Tuesday.
A. Sridevi, Ghanta Srinivas and D. Ramesh were left out of the list of suspended MLAs to the amusement of their colleagues.
In fact, Mr. Srinivas was bodily lifted by marshals and removed from the House. So was Ms. Sridevi, who was led away by woman marshals.
TDP circles were also unable to fathom the differential treatment in the suspension of MLAs who remained in their seats when the trouble was going on. Senior members - T. Devender Gowd, Y. Ramakrishnudu and Ch. Rajeswara Rao -- were named, but not S.V. Subba Reddy, P.V. Krishna Babu and, of course, their leader, N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The TDLP whip, P. Keshav, said it was a pre-planned suspension order. "A typewritten paper with names was kept ready before the trouble began."
