BHOPAL, FEB. 22. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur, announced in the Assembly today that a 2000-MW thermal power plant would be set up in Khandwa district by the Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat governments through a joint venture undertaking. Mr. Gaur told the House that an agreement was signed today between the two governments to set up the new plant. "The target is to commission this project within the next four years," he said, adding that discussions were also on to set up a 360-MW gas-based power plant in Jhabua district. The State Government is also making serious efforts to restart work on the Maheshwar hydel power project, he told the House. The Chief Minister said the State Finance Minister had announced in his budget speech on February 18 that the State Electricity Board has decided to set up a new 1000 MW thermal power plant in Khandwa district. The proposed thermal power plant would now be set up jointly by the Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Governments, he added.
