A case for better planning on clinical trial

CHANDIGARH, FEB.22. The Head of the Pharmacology Department at the PGI here, P. Pandhi, today called for designing protocols for the conduct of clinical trials.

Speaking at the National Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology here, Prof. Pandhi said that unless the trial is properly planned and all the information about it is documented in the protocol, the chances of conducting it successfully are negligible.

Assistant Professor Samir Malhotra spoke on the importance of biostatics in clinical research. Shoibal Mukherjee, Senior Director, Pfizer talked about combination drugs available in the market. He explained which combinations are rational and which may not be and how to differentiate. Professor S.P.Dhaneria spoke about rational use of drugs. He said that many times drugs may not be used properly and prescribers need to be informed about them. Professor P.L.Sharma, Emiritus Professor, PGI, talked about clinical drug development.
