BHOPAL, FEB. 22. The Opposition today staged a walkout in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly demanding a judicial probe into the alleged murder of a villager in Hoshangabad district on January 24. The Leader of Opposition, Jamuna Devi, along with Rajnarayan Singh Purni and Hukum Singh Karada told the House through a calling attention notice that one Kishorilal Chaudhary was beaten up and killed by some villagers who were in a procession taken out at Baghwada village in the Seoni-Malwa tehsil of Hoshnagabad district on January 24 to celebrate the victory of the newly elected Sarpanch, Sushila Mehra and the Janapad member Ramawtar Asware. They pointed out that Kishorilal was abused and beaten up after he was called from his house and asked to join the procession. Even his son, Narmada Prasad, was beaten up when he tried to intervene. Later that evening, Kishorilal succumbed to his injuries. They further informed the House that even though a case had been registered under the SC/ST Atrocities Act, the accused were allowed to go scot-free as the postmortem report said that Kishorilal had died after drinking liquor mixed with some poisonous substance. The Minister of State for Home, Jagdeesh Dewda, admitted that there was a scuffle and Kishorilal and his son were beaten up. The incident erupted after Kishorilal, who was under the influence of liquor, had abused those belonging to the Lauvanshi community, the Minister told the House. He refuted the allegation that the Police had released the accused under pressure. When the Opposition leader demanded a high-level probe, the Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur announced that a senior officer would be asked to probe the incident. When he refused to concede the demand for a judicial probe, Ms. Devi protested and led a walkout, which was also joined by the Samajwadi Party and Gondwana Gantantra Party members.
