Talks fail: JAC protest tomorrow

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB.22. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of employees, workers and teachers will go ahead with its protest programme of laying a siege to the Assembly on February 24 following the failure of talks with the Government here on Tuesday.

The main demand of the JAC is payment of interim relief to the employees pending finalisation of the Pay Revision Commission report.

The Government employees will take out a "Chalo Assembly" rally from the Central Library, Afzalganj, at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The talks were held following the invitation to the JAC by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, the Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, and the GAD Secretary, Satish Chandra, were present.

Dr. Reddy is said to have cited poor financial position of the Government while making the offer of 7.5 per cent interim relief to the employees. The JAC leaders pressed for payment of at least 10 per cent, it said.
