LUCKNOW, FEB. 22. Journalists of leading Hindi daily `Amar Ujala' today handed over a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, protesting the alleged harassment of one of their colleagues. The scribes met Mr Yadav and informed him about the alleged harassment of their colleague by the Superintendent of Police (Lakhimpur Kheri), Ms N Padmaja. Later, addressing the media, the newspaper claimed that the Chief Minister has assured them to look into the matter. The newspaper has also demanded the transfer of the SP from the district. On February 10, the Lakhimpur police had arrested Amar Ujala scribe Shamimullah alias Neelu under the Forest Act for allegedly possessing tiger nails and crocodile skin. Soon after his arrest, the CPI-ML had alleged that Neelu was arrested as he was constantly writing against the multi-crore foodgrains scam in the district. After protests from various corners, the State Government had ordered a CID probe into the incident. The probe followed an inquiry by DIG (Lucknow range) B L Meena. Neelu was granted bail on February 19. -- UNI
