Industry suggests better rail links in Himachal

By Our Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA, FEB.22. The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has become a main relationship-building agency between the Government and the industrialists in Himachal, has suggested to the Government to consider building up good rail links for increasing connectivity in the State. There are hardly any broad gauge railway networks in the state and the industry has suffered on this account, says the PHDCCI.

The Chamber has urged the officials concerned in the state industry department to build a rail track between Pinjore and Ropar passing through Baddi and Nalagarh and expediting the Baddi-Chandigarh road link at the earliest. The hill state lacks connectivity, which is very crucial for the promotion of heavy industry or any type of industrial development of the state. The Chamber has insisted on the state government to consider identification of a strategic partner for power distribution on a profit sharing basis to ensure more heavy industries in the state.

The PHDCCI has suggested the government to have a maximum of three members for ensuring faster processing under the single window clearance, which the industry feels has not worked effectively so far. It wants the setting up of a cell for registration of manpower requirements of industries and to consider the matter of multi point market fee applicable on agro products.

It has further demanded the conversion of leasehold plots to freehold plots at Parwanoo, the industrial township, and the funds collected through the conversion to be made available for development and upgradation of infrastructure in the industrial area.
