China announces Davis Cup team
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 22.
The 334th-ranked Pen Sun will spearhead the Chinese challenge in the Davis Cup Asia Oceania group `I' tie against India to be played at the R.K. Khanna Stadium here from March 4 to 6.
Yu Wang (408), Ben-Qiang Zhu (692) and Hao Lu (720) are the other members of the Chinese team.
The Indian players Prakash Amritraj and Harsh Mankad are ranked 357 and 359 respectively in singles, while captain Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have impressive doubles ranking of 11 and 9 respectively. Leander has a singles ranking of 1075 while Mahesh does not have a singles rank as he has stopped playing the event.
The 347th-ranked Sunil Kumar, the best ranked Indian at the moment on the ATP Tour, could not find favour with the selection committee that met in Hyderabad on February 12.
