THRISSUR, FEB. 22. Film director Blessy has won the Ramu Kariat Award for the best film director instituted by the Thrissur-based film collective Arya Thrissivaperur. Addressing a Press conference here today, the office-bearers of the collective said the award carries a gold medal of three sovereigns, a bronze sculpture designed by renowned sculptor Kanayi Kunjiraman, and a citation. They said Mr. Blessy, who directed the Malayalam film `Kazcha', was selected for the award through an opinion poll in which 259 respondents participated. Kamal, T.V. Chandran, and Shyamaprasad won the second, third and fourth places respectively in the opinion poll. They said Kozhikode Shanthadevi has been selected for the Premji Award for her total contributions to the theatre and film fields. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,001 and a citation. The awards will be presented to the winners at a function to be held in May in Thrissur.
