`Thulabharam' counter to be renovated

By Our Staff Reporter

GURUVAYUR, FEB. 22. The Guruvayur Devaswom Chairman, K. Velayudhan Nambiar, has said that a time-bound action plan would be drawn up to complete the proposed renovation of the `thulabharam' counter at the Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple.

Talking to reporters here today, Mr. Nambiar said the managing committee of the devaswom has constituted a sub-committee to speed up the renovation work of the counter.

A devotee from Bangalore has offered Rs.1.5 crores for the renovation work. But according to reports, the work is estimated to cost more than that.

The devotee has agreed to contribute some more amount in case the cost of renovation goes up. The devaswom may be prepared to contribute some amount from its fund for the renovation work, Mr. Nambiar said.

The chairman said that the new managing committee has also appointed a new sub-committee for completing the pending recruitment of the Temple `koyma' and temporary security staff.

Replying to questions, the chairman said the two-day meeting of the managing committee on Monday and Tuesday did not discuss any controversial issues such as the reported inspection of the golden crown offered by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, by Income Tax Department.
