11 killed, 25 injured in accidents

TIRUVALLUR, FEB.22. Eleven persons were killed and 25 injured in road accidents in Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts last night.

According to police, six persons were killed when a State Transport Corporation bus plying between Chennai and Tiruttani, hit a tree on the Tiruvallur-Tiruttani Road near Panapakkam at around 11-45 p.m. last night. The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle.The dead were identified as Venkatesan, the driver, Kumaresan, the conductor, Muthu of Nedumbaram near Panapakkam and Ekambaram of Srikalikapuram near Tiruttani, Arumugam and Ganesan of Naranamangalam in Arakkonam district.

While the conductor died on the spot, Muthu and Ekambaram were declared dead on arrival to a hospital at Tiruvallur.

The bus driver was brought dead to the Government General Hospital, Chennai. Arumugam and Ganesan died after admission to the hospital.

Mani, Bhoopalan and Govindasamy were being treated at the Tiruvallur hospital.

In the second accident at Tharatchi on Oothukottai-Periyapalayam Road, a goods carrier hit a temple, killing two persons.

While Radhakrishnan of Periyapalayam died on the spot, Rangan of the same area was declared dead on arrival at the Government General Hospital, Chennai.

In the third accident, three persons were killed and 22 others injured at Sunguvarchatram in Kancheepuram district, when a mini-lorry rammed into a parked container lorry.

The vehicle was carrying 45 persons from Pazhaiya Suraiyur near Vellore, who were returning home after attending a function at T. Nagar in Chennai, when the accident occurred.

The victims were identified as Unnamalai, Pattammal and Saravanan.
