NEW DELHI, FEB. 22. The Supreme Court will hear on February 28 the bail plea by S.A. Raja, key accused in the Aladi Aruna murder case. Mr. Raja was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on January 30. A three-judge Bench, comprising the Chief Justice, R.C. Lahoti, Justice D.M. Dharmadhikari and Justice P.K. Balasubramanyan, fixed the date of hearing his special leave petition after senior counsel M.N. Krishnamani pleaded for early listing. The prosecution case is that Mr. Raja hired a gang, paying Rs. 5 lakhs to eliminate the former Tamil Nadu Minister. In pursuance of the conspiracy, the assailants who came on motorcycles murdered Aruna when he was going for a walk on December 31, 2004. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court rejected Mr. Raja's bail application on February 8. The SLP is directed against this judgment.
