CHENNAI, FEB. 22. The Government today told the Madras High Court that there was no move to arrest columnist S. Gurumurthy till February 25 for allegedly giving false evidence and refusing to answer questions put by the Special Investigation Team in the Sankararaman murder case. The State public prosecutor, K. Duraisamy, made this statement before Justice K.P. Sivasubramaniam when a memo filed by Mr. Gurumurthy alleging that he was contacted over mobile phone by an inspector from Kancheepuram and asked whether he would come to Tamil Nadu or the police had to come to Mumbai to arrest him. In view of the police "determination" to arrest him, Mr. Gurumurthy prayed for early hearing of his plea for a stay on all proceedings of the first information report registered against him. Mr. Duraisamy said though there was no move to arrest him, if any order was passed it would appear as though only because of the court order Mr. Gurumurthy was not arrested. The judge then posted the matter to February 25.
