COIMBATORE, FEB. 22 . The rural postal life insurance scheme has been extended to Neelikanampalayam Post Office.

The office is also conducting a drive to involve more eligible public in this scheme.

Caught

A murder case accused jumped from the first floor of the Combined Court Complex here today to escape but was caught before he could make cover much ground.

Durairaj (26), an accused in a case relating to the murder of a girl at Sulur in 2002, emerged from the court after the case was adjourned to February 28. Walking on the corridor, he took the police escorts by surprise.

He leapt over the balcony railing and landed on the ground below.

By the time, he regained his balance and made a dash for the gates, police swooped on him. A case has been registered at the Race Course police station.

Dies

Kalimuthu (26), who worked for a pesticide unit here, died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital today after he fell ill at the unit on February 18.

Kalimuthu had swooned after having lunch.

It is said that he might not have washed traces of pesticide off his hands and these might have got mixed with the food he took. His relatives thronged the District Collector, Kosalaraman's office and demanded that the unit pay compensation to the family of the deceased.

Terminated

The Southern Railway has informed that the Thanjavur-Coimbatore Jan Shatabdi will be terminated at the Coimbatore North Railway Station as relaying of the line on platform number two at the Coimbatore Railway Junction was on.

Rail traffic on this platform will be suspended for 48 days - from February 26 to April 11.

While the Thanjavur-Coimbatore service will arrive at Coimbatore North at 12.25 p.m., it will leave in the return direction at 2.20 p.m.
