Panchayat official arrested

BANGALORE,
FEB. 22.
The Kolar Lokayukta Police on Tuesday arrested K.V. Reddappa, a senior official of the Srinivasapura Taluk Panchayat in Kolar district, on the charge of misappropriating money meant for use in the Ashraya housing scheme.
The Lokayukta Police have charged Reddappa with helping a few employees and bankers encash several cheques issued in the name of the housing scheme beneficiaries.
The cheques pertain to the grant for 2003-04 given to the beneficiaries for building houses on free sites allotted in their name, they said. Reddappa allegedly did not give the cheques to the beneficiaries but received acknowledgement saying that they had received them.
