KOCHI, FEB. 22. The District Administration will clamp down on the illegal manufacturing of ice-creams and soda as part of a drive against the spread of jaundice, the District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, said at a meeting held here on Tuesday. Measures will be initiated to curb the spread of jaundice, a water-borne disease, he added. He added that residents' associations, traders and hotel and restaurant associations would be called upon to create awareness on the disease. It was decided at the meeting that all social and non-governmental organisations such as Kudumbasree units, officials of the Health Department, Literacy Mission and the Water Authority would work together for the prevention of the disease. Tips on maintaining hygiene such as how to store water without contamination and keeping the premises clean will be given to the people. Students will also be involved in the awareness campaign.
