NEW DELHI, FEB. 22. Two persons, including a postgraduate woman from Delhi University who had also campaigned for a candidate in South-West Delhi during last year's general elections, have been arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly killing a man on February 12. On February 15, Morkali, a Najafgarh resident, lodged a complaint with the Najafgarh police saying her son, Rajkumar, had gone missing on February 12 after he went to meet one Vidya Devi, also a Najafgarh resident. She further told the police that Vidya had told her over the phone that Rajkumar had come along with one Rajiv on February 12 and that she had not seen them since. Morkali suspected that Rajiv had kidnapped her son. Following the complaint, a case of kidnapping was registered. Inquiries at Rajiv's house revealed that he had been missing since February 12. The police mounted surveillance at his house and arrested him on February 19. At his instance, Vidya was also arrested on Monday. The police have recovered the weapon of offence and some belongings of the deceased at the instance of the accused. During interrogation, the accused told the police that Rajiv, Rajkumar and Vidya's husband, Rambir, were lodged in jail in connection with various offences in 2004. While Rambir was in jail on charges of rape, Rajiv was in jail for murder of one Ashok. There, he came in contact with Rajkumar, who too had several cases registered against him, through Vidya. She also used to visit her husband in jail. Around that time, Rajiv had also been demanding money from Pradeep Sharma, who too was arrested in connection with Ashok's murder. He used to tell Pradeep that it was due to him that he got involved in the murder. On the other hand, Rajiv suspected Rajkumar of being an associate of Pradeep. Rajiv told Vidya about this. She then told him to eliminate Rajkumar before he eliminated him. She also provided him with a country-made revolver. The conspiracy was hatched after Rajiv and Rajkumar came out of jail. On the fateful day, Rajiv took Rajkumar to Vidya's house and from there took him on a stolen motorcycle to Delhi-Haryana border and shot him dead on a desolate field. In order to delay Rajkumar's identification, Rajiv stole his wallet, the gold chain and wristwatch. The police said Vidya was married to Rambir in 1989. She was working as a coordinator for the notorious Krishan Pehalwan gang and other anti-social elements. Further investigations in the case are on.
