Pepper procurement resumes

THIRUVANANTHAPRUAM, FEB. 22. The Thiruvananthapuram District Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society will resume procurement of pepper from Wednesday. A pressnote issued by the society here today said the procurement would be on the basis of the support price declared by the State Government. Farmers are directed to bring their produce for procurement on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Selected for award

T.S. Anirudhan, Reader, Department of Chemistry, University of Kerala, Karyavattom, has been selected for the `Rashtriya Gaurav Award' instituted by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi. He has been selected for his contributions to the areas of physical and polymer chemistry and environmental sciences including the development of new technologies in industrial wastewater treatment, waste disposal and management and pollution monitoring.

Elected Fellows

C.C. Kartha, Professor and Head of the Division of Cellular and Molecular Cardiology, and V.V. Radhakrishnan, Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, here have been elected as Fellows of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India.

Vector control

The City Corporation has intensified vector control activities to prevent the outbreak of epidemics. Night-time fogging operations have been taken up at the ward level, a pressnote quoting the Mayor, J. Chandra, said here today. The fogging will be staggered to cover all the wards facing the mosquito menace.
