Suicide bid by farmer near Secretariat

HYDERABAD,
FEB. 22.
A farmer, T. Rajendra Prasad, 25, claiming that he was debt-ridden and unable to feed his family, attempted suicide by consuming pesticide near the Secretariat new gate on Tuesday night.
The Saifabad police rushed him to the Osmania General Hospital. A note purportedly written by Prasad and addressed to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, stated that he was neck-deep in debts due to failure of crops.
A native of Peddamogalaipalli village in Anantapur district, he maintained that he could not secure loans from any bank.
