HYDERABAD, FEB. 22. Investigation into the raid on a stall at the industrial exhibition last night has been handed over to the special investigation team attached to the Hyderabad Detective Department because of its communal overtones. The Additional Commissioner of Police (Co-ordination), A.K. Khan, told reporters on Tuesday that inquiry was on to find out the "real reasons" behind the attack. Agitators accused stall owners of hurting their religious sentiments by selling pictures and lockets. However, the police said they were yet to find out why trouble broke on the last day of the exhibition if the sale of pictures and lockets was on since the exhibition's inauguration.
Two held
"Two organisers of the stall have been taken into custody. But, they are able to speak only Persian, which is making our job difficult," Mr. Khan said. The pictures that were seized from the stall contained some pictorial representation and text written in Persian. Police maintained that they were trying to contact persons well versed in Persian language to find out what the text meant. If anything hurting the sentiments of a particular religion was found action would be initiated, irrespective of the intention on the part of the stall organisers, he added.
