HYDERABAD, FEB. 22. Four policemen, including the Santoshnagar Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saheb Peer, who went to arrest a history-sheeter, Md. Akbar, sustained injuries when the latter and his family members resorted to stone throwing in Bhavaninagar late last night. A couple of Task Force constables went to Akbar's house to take him into custody in connection with a cheating case. Akbar was accused of cheating housewives in Salala Barkas area by selling sub-standard grinding machines at higher rates claiming them to be foreign-made. On seeing the constables, Akbar allegedly began to abuse them. Meanwhile, Akbar's wife called up the South Zone DCP, Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, on his mobile saying her husband was being attacked by some unidentified persons. The DCP personally went to the place before directing Mr. Saheb Peer to rush to the spot. Even as the ACP tried to convince Akbar saying that the police only wanted to question him, the accused and his family members began throwing water mixed with chilli powder and continued to hurl stones. The ACP and three constables, who received injuries, were shifted to hospital. The agitated family members of Akbar did not spare even the DCP. However, Mr. Bhagawat managed to escape without being hurt. The stone pelting continued for a few minutes. Additional police parties were rushed to the scene and Akbar was finally taken into custody.
