This Day That Age
The second atomic weapon explosion of the 1955 series of tests was set off near Las Vegas (Nevada) on February 22. The flash lit up the desert and could be seen in Las Vegas, 75 miles to the south-east, and in Los Angeles, 275 miles to the south-west. The explosion was seen as an orange flash. Many previous detonations were a brilliant white. The shot was detonated from the top of a 300-foot tower. It had been classed as a medium-size device slightly larger than the one dropped in the opening test of the series last week.
