Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article, "The credit card generation" (Feb. 22). The credit card providers gain access to the middle classes and prevail upon them to buy their cards. The customers get trapped by their aggressive marketing and fall prey to their lucrative, not-so-transparent offers. The credit card mania is sure to ruin the economic and emotional stability of society.
N. Ramya,
Sir, I am reminded of Shakespeare's words in Hamlet: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be; for loan oft loses both itself and friend, and borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry." How ironical that the youth in the land of the bard should find themselves trapped in debts. Our country is not too far from confronting the situation either.
Ch. Sampath Reddy,
Sir, The article points to the direction in which we are headed. By tempting the youth, card companies are doing a great disservice to society and our future generations.
Saraswathy Ramakrishnan,
