BCI exam for lawyers with foreign degrees

NEW DELHI, FEB. 22. The Bar Council of India (BCI) has notified that the candidates holding degrees in Law from foreign universities recognised by it for enrolment as advocates should have undergone a three-year LL.B course after graduation in any other discipline on the pattern of 10+2+3 or a five-year Integrated Law course after 10+2 and should pass an examination conducted by the BCI in the following subjects.

Code of Civil Procedure, Limitation Act and Transfer of Property Act; Cr.P.C., Indian Penal Code and Indian Evidence Act; Personal laws; Professional Ethics and Legal History of India; Constitutional Law of India and Environmental law.

This takes effect from February 20, the date of the notification.

The BCI, however, clarified that all those students who joined the LL.B. course prior to February 20 in the foreign universities recognised by the BCI would be eligible for enrolment without passing the above examination.
