JAIPUR, FEB. 23 .The police resorted to a lathi-charge this afternoon in the Raipura area of Kota town to disperse an unruly mob. They were protesting against the Bible graduation programme of the Emmanuel Mission Society which commenced this morning amidst controversies. Four persons from the 500-600 strong group, led by the local leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, sustained minor injuries in the lathi- charge. A few police personnel also sustained injuries in the stone- pelting. The incident took place between 1 PM and 2 PM in front of the Emmanuel Mission Society campus. The programme at the Mission with over 3500 delegates had commenced early in the morning. The sources in Kota said that the mob unrest was an expression of resentment when a few persons who wanted to join a delegation representing those opposed to the congregation, were left out. The Emmanuel Mission had offered to let a delegation 11 persons from their critics to participate in the function and decide themselves whether any attempt at conversion was being made. A local BJP leader, Kushpal Singh, who was part of the delegation which attended the programme, said those who pelted stones at the police did not belong to any of the Sangh Parivar organizations.
