Maoists raid ashram school

By Our Special Correspondent

ONGOLE, FEB. 23. Maoists raided the tribal welfare ashram school at Bheemaramuni Chervugudem in Ardhaveedu mandal late last night and took away the watchman. They broke open the storeroom and carried away rice stocks.

Police refuted reports that the Maoists had blasted the school building. Police could not reach the village which lay in the deep forest in the Nallamala area, 15 km from Ardhaveedu. The village can be reached only by trekking for over 7-8 km. Police believe that the Maoists had spread rumours about blasting of the school building to lure the police into the forest and attack them with landmines.

Explosives recovered

NIZAMABAD: The Kamareddy sub-division police nabbed six Maoists at Arepally village in Machareddy mandal and recovered four soap bombs, 114 detonators, 24 gelatin sticks and 12 bundles of fuse wire from them.

They were allegedly involved in the attack on an electrical sub-station and destruction of foundation-stones laid to the water works and road works at Arepally and Potharam in the mandal recently.

Three cases under Section 147, 148 and 435 read with 149 of the IPC and Section 4 of the Public Property Destruction Act and Section 3 and 4 of the Explosives Substance Act were registered in the Machareddy police station against them, according to the Deputy SP, K.V. Mohan Rao.

The Deputy SP claimed the arrested militants -- Ch. Narsa Reddy, Aleti Krishna Reddy, Aleti Promod Reddy, Bagini Chinnaiah, Gyara Sailoo and Vadde Venkaiah -- said they had indulged in violent activities under the direction of the Maoist leaders -- Ramesh and Murali.

One more militant, Burra Srihari, who was invoved in the cases had been absconding, Mr. Mohan Rao said.
