Row over YSR's absence

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, FEB.23. Telugu Desam members protested against the absence of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, from the Assembly for a while during the debate on Paritala Ravi's murder and raised slogans demanding his presence.

Dr. Reddy left the House around 1.30 p.m. to attend another pre-arranged programme. However, before leaving, he said the debate could be continued and assured to return by 2.15 p.m. He said that he would intervene when necessary as the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, would reply to the debate.

The Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, said that it would not be proper to debate the issue in the absence of the Chief Minister as certain allegations were made and the name of Dr. Reddy's son figured in the FIR. Even as the Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, called K. Nagesh (TRS) to speak, several TDP members raised slogans drawing criticism from the Legislative Affairs Minister, K. Rosaiah.

Mr. Naidu wanted the Chief Minister to be present or postponement of the debate. Following an appeal from Mr. Rosaiah, the TDP members relented and the debate continued. The Chief Minister later returned to the House.
