Vinoy Verghese's contribution of 34 points went in vain as Bombay `B' defeated New Delhi `A' 61-56 on the opening day of the 30th all-India inter-YMCA basketball tournament here on Wednesday. In group `B', Sashikanta helped Calcutta win both its matches on way to the quarterfinals.
Group A: Bombay `A' 45 (Obaid 10) bt Hyderabad 21. Group B: Calcutta 62 (Sashikanta 27, Davinder 18) bt Kollam 46 (Nitin 14, Shiji 14); Calcutta 76 (Sashikanta 29, Satya Bhattcharya 25) bt Abdul Sattar 17, H. K. Nayaran 14). Group C: Ernakulam 47 (Manoj 18, Anil 12) bt Ooty 39 (Hakkim 15, Mohan 11).
Group D: Bombay `B': 61 (Kadam 17, Suraj Sethi 15) bt New Delhi `A' 56 (Vinoy C. Verghese 34).
