By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB. 23. Two persons, including a 70-year-old man, were killed when a DCM van knocked them down after its driver lost control, on the Champapet main road on Wednesday night. The driver was allegedly in an inebriated state.

The van went on to hit one more person injuring him seriously and then colliding against four motorcycles parked on the roadside before coming to a halt after hitting an electric pole. The driver, Goverdhan, who was still seated in the vehicle after it hit the pole, was taken into custody by the Saidabad police.

The timber-laden van first hit a cyclist, K. Yadagiri Reddy, 35, near S.N. Reddy function Hall, from behind killing him on the spot. Later, it hit another unidentified cyclist injuring him seriously.

Even as passers-by alerted a pedestrian, G. Jagannadha Rao, 70, he did not notice the speeding van, which ran over him. The old man died on the way to the hospital.
