Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Centre's assurance to the Supreme Court that it will address in Parliament the issue of charge sheeted Ministers is welcome. But can the Prime Minister, who could do nothing to prevent them from joining the Union Cabinet, help force a reasonable decision through a debate in Parliament? The proposed debate will be a meaningless exercise and a waste of time and money in existing circumstances. On the other hand, what does the Court intend doing if no decision is taken?
P. Krishna,
Sir, Only recently Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lamented that corruption in public life was rampant and that there was no single agency to curb it. In view of the facts that there are charge sheeted Ministers in his own Cabinet, and the cases against Satish Sharma and Mayawati have been closed, do not his remarks seem inappropriate?
N.R. Sathyamurty,
