Letters to the Editor
Sir, The grant of full managerial autonomy to public sector banks will have only a cosmetic value. With nominated directors from the RBI, the Central Government, etc., on their boards, these banks will never enjoy the freedom their counterparts do in the private sector.
R. Chakrapani,
Sir, The Government has finally taken a pragmatic decision. More heartening is the fact that it has conceded leverage in almost all areas where the public sector banks clamoured for freedom. This places these banks almost on a par with most of the new generation private sector banks. We hope their performance also will match that of the private sector banks.
Tharcius S. Fernando,
Sir, The demarcation of roles, coming as it did a few days prior to the budget, will give rise to doubts in the minds of investors.
Manu Kaushikh,
