This Day That Age
The French National Assembly on February 23 voted M. Edgar Faure into office as Prime Minister. He was the fourth man to attempt to form France's 21st post-war Government in succession to that of M. Pierre Mendes-France which fell 20 days ago. M. Faure, who was voted into office by 345 votes to 210, presented to the National Assembly for approval a Cabinet list comprising a coalition of Radicals, Popular Republicans, Conservatives, Gaullists and Dissident Gaullists. He named M. Autine Pinay (Conservative) as Foreign Minister, General Pierre Koenig (Gaullist), as Minister of National Defence, and M. Gilbert Jules (Radical), as the Secretary of State for Finance.
