This Day That Age
The President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on February 23 appealed to the people to take interest and cooperate in the development of the dramatic art. Presenting the awards of the National Drama Festival to the winners and also inaugurating the third conference of Theatre Centre (India), he said drama, though an ancient art in India, had been on the decline but was now showing signs of revival and regeneration. The Theatre Centre was to a great extent responsible for this. Drama provided recreation as well as education. Unlike the film, where no live persons were seen but only sounds heard, in drama actors could be seen in flesh and blood. Mrs. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyaya, President of the Theatre Centre (India), announced that the Centre proposed to establish a teaching academy for theatre art in Bombay and plans were being finalised for it.
