LUCKNOW, FEB. 24. Curfew was relaxed twice for one-hour each in the Thakurganj area of the old city today where a sectarian clash during a Moharram procession on Sunday last had left three dead and 15 injured. The phased relaxation was effected from 2pm to 3pm and then from 14pm to 5pm, the District Magistrate, Aradhana Shukla, said. Since the overall situation was peaceful with no untoward incident being reported from anywhere, the administration decided to relax the curfew to facilitate people to buy essential commodities, Ms.Shukla said. The police had yesterday arrested one of the accused in the case identified as Parvez and had launched a massive manhunt for the remaining accused. The police, PAC and RAF personnel were patrolling the affected areas to keep a close watch on anti-social elements, the DM said adding a peace committee meeting comprising representatives of both Shias and Sunnis was also held to elicit their cooperation for peacekeeping. Curfew was imposed in Thakurganj after three persons were killed and about 15 others injured in a clash between Shias and Sunnis during a tazia procession on Sunday, the 10th day of Moharram. PTI
