Congress to raise allocation for Etawah in Assembly

LUCKNOW, FEB. 24 . Flaying the Uttar Pradesh Government for spending money on ``unproductive'' projects, the Congress today said it would raise in the Assembly the issue of allocation of a major share of the State's budget for development of the Chief Minister, Mulyam Singh Yadav's native district of Etawah.

``Huge funds have been allocated for the development of Etawah, which is the home district of Mr. Yadav, and the Congress will raise the matter forcefully in the Vidhan Sabha,'' the UPCC president, Salman Khursheed, told reporters here.

He said the State Budget announced yesterday had no concrete plan for the development of social and industrial sectors.

Releasing a list of budgetary provisions of about Rs 300 crores for various projects in Saifai, the native village of the Chief Minister, Mr. Khursheed alleged that funds have been allocated to the schools and colleges having members of Mr.Yadav's family on the managing committees.

``Funds have also given to individuals and institutions against whom FIRs were lodged during Mayawati's regime on charges of misuse of Chief Minister's discretionary fund, he alleged.

Terming the State budget as a stamp for facilitating loot of Government funds, Mr. Khursheed said it focussed on the uplift of only three districts - Etawah, Rampur and Azamgarh which were represented by senior SP leaders. PTI
