Stress on modernisation of U.P. police

LUCKNOW, FEB 24 . Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar today stressed on the modernisation of the police department in the state.

While taking the salute of the annual police parade at the reserve police lines here, Mr Rajeswar advised them to make their system efficient to tackle the changing modus operandi of the criminals.

Supporting the funds allotted for the police modernisation in the state budget, he suggested to the state government to consider starting the police commissioner work system in the bigger cities of the state.

The Governor said the law and order situation in the state had improved and the police was playing an able role in it.

He stressed on the need to equip the state police with the most modern weapons and added that the state government was aware on that front.

Mr Rajeswar also laid emphasis on fully computerising the police department so that the sharing of information between police headquarters and other stations could be done effectively to check criminal activities.

He said, ``The times are changing fast and so are the activities of the criminals. Now the crimes are not only limited to the state, but the criminals have spread their activities to other states also. Therefore, the police has to be on alert every time.''

Earlier, Mr Rajeswar awarded the President's police medal to two policemen posthumously and awarded 10 other medals to the police officials and employees for their bravery. -- UNI
