SRIKAKULAM, FEB.24. Welcoming the commencement of Phase II works of the Vamsadhara project which would be a boon to the entire Srikakulam district, the former Minister and district unit president of the TDP, Tammineni Sitaram, on Thursday found fault with officials and political leadership for taking unilateral decision which had created "misapprehensions" in the minds of people of Orissa. Speaking to newsmen at the party office here, Mr. Sitaram, who was convener of the Vamsadhara Project Porata Samithi, pointed out that when inter-State issues were involved, it was incumbent on the part Government to explain to the other party various issues, even though no dispute was involved. "We have a right to utilise 50 per cent of the total 75 tmcft of water from Vamsadhara. We proposed a barrage at Neredi which would mean submersion of 106 acres in Orissa. Orissa had objected and a new design, which ensured that there was no submersion in Orissa was finalised. But this had to be explained to the Orissa Government," he said.
