HYDERABAD, FEB. 24. The Board of Directors of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) here on Thursday decided to purchase 627 new buses in the financial year 2005-06 and continue plying of hired buses whose contracts expire in the three months of April, May and June, until June 30, 2005. An Occupancy Ratio (OR) of 65 per cent and a revenue of Rs. 3,470 crores for the financial year 2005-06 have been projected. Against a target of 61 per cent for 2004-05, the corporation achieved an OR of 63 per cent. The projections include Rs. 3,186 crores through passenger patronage, Rs. 184 crores by way of 50 per cent reimbursement of concessions given and Rs. 100 crores of miscellaneous revenue, primarily through space for advertisements. The decision to allow hired buses to continue up to June 30 this year was to ensure smooth operations in the peak months of April, May and June. Of the fleet strength of 19,268, which gave APSRTC a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, 1,662 buses are hired. Contracts for 390 of these hired buses are due to expire between March and December 2005. The move to go in for 627 new buses is the largest addition to the fleet in a single year since 1997 when an estimated 800 buses were inducted. Those present were Chairman, Gone Prakash Rao, chairmen of the Zonal Advisory Council - J. Ramesh (Vijayawada), M. Narayana Rao (Vizianagaram), G. Dwarakanath Reddy (Cuddapah), P. Rangaiah (Nellore), S. Jaganmohan Rao (Karimnagar) and K. Sanjiva Reddy (Hyderabad.). The official representatives were MD, P. Gautam Kumar, Principal Secretary, Finance, I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, Secretary, Transport, Binoy Kumar and Geetha Thoopal from the South Central Railway.
