Notice to Tihar official in Kohli case

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 24. An Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) here today issued a contempt of court notice to the Capital's Tihar Jail Superintendent on an application by Maninder Singh Kohli, facing extradition proceedings for being deported to Britain to face trial there in the Hannah Foster murder case, charging the jail officer with not taking him to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment for his post-operative complications despite a court direction earlier this month.

Directing the Jail Superintendent to comply with his direction of February 11,the ACMM, Ravinder Dudeja, also asked him to file a reply to the petition by March 3.

Counsel for Kohli, C.S. Bakshi, informed the court that his client was having severe pain in the liver and stomach as he had developed certain complications after he underwent operations for stones in his gall bladder at the Deen Dayal Upadhayay Hospital here.

He said that the ultrasound done on the operated part of Kohli had shown certain foreign bodies embedded there.

Kohli was brought here on September 10 last year on a production warrant issued by the ACMM. He was arrested on July 15 at Kalimpong in Darjeeling in West Bengal and was later lodged in Chandigarh jail in connection with another case there.
