Documentaries screened

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. A 45-minute retrospective of Darpan Video India's television programmes was screened at the Vice-President's residence here today. The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, was the chief guest at the show.

The retrospective included excerpts from programmes like "Samay Ke Sakshi", "Desh Ki Pukar" and documentaries titled "Wooden Craft of Udaipur", "Handicrafts of Nathdwara" and "Kibber". Glimpses from popular series on tribal life and culture, "Lesser Known Tribes of India", and "Pathrayee Ankhon Ke Sapne" were also screened.

CSS staff up in arms

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. The Central Secretariat Service (CSS) officers are agitated over the indecision of the Department of Post and Telegraph to stop "lateral entry" of stenographers to their department. According to a CSS Forum release, the officers of CSS and stenographers are structurally and functionally different from one another. While the minimum educational qualification for CSS officers is graduation, for stenographers it is matriculation. Even the methods of recruitment for the two are different.

AIMA foundation day

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. The All-India Management Association celebrated its 48th Foundation Day this past Monday. The chief guest on the occasion was the Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

AIMA awards were presented to Venu Shrinivasan, CMD, TVS Motors Co. Ltd; K.Vijay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police and Chief of Special Task Force, Chennai; and A.N. Haksar, Chairman Emeritus, ITC Ltd.

Annual cultural show

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. The Ahlcon Public School at Mayur Vihar held its annual cultural show titled "Umang" this past Monday. The chief guest on the occasion was the eminent theatre personality Hafiz Khan who also gave away the prizes.

The school principal, R.K.Sharma, and its chairman, Bikramjit Ahluwalia, reiterated their earlier promise to give the economically challenged children the best education and set them up in career-oriented courses.

Prizes distributed

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. The Annual Aryabhatta Prize Distribution Ceremony for meritorious students was held at Summer Fields School in the Capital this past week.

About 90 schools participated in the Aryabhatta competition that tests the ability of the students and removes their irrational fears regarding mathematics. While the school's principal Rachna Pant gave away the prizes, a cultural programme was presented by the students on the occasion. While the first position in the junior category was bagged by Rishab K. Marya from Delhi Public School, Vasant Vihar, the second position was awarded to Kashish Mittal of the same school. Aditya Gupta of Modern School, Vasant Vihar, won the third position. In the senior category, the first position was awarded to Kanika Handa of Delhi Public School, Faridabad, while the second position went to Chaitanya Chopra of the same school. Nikhil Kumar of Mother's International School got the third position.
