95 gas cylinders seized

By Our Staff Reporter

NAGERCOIL, FEB. 24. The officials of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited today seized 95 gas cylinders from an unauthorized distributor at Thampathukonam near Nagercoil.

According to police sources, based on a tip-off Bharat Petroleum officials led by senior sales officer, Krishnakumar, followed a mini-lorry carrying empty gas cylinders meant for domestic purpose. When the entire consignment was unloaded at a godown at Thampathukonam, the officials conducted the surprise raid. It was revealed that Sundaresan of the same area was running a gas refilling station and distributed the cylinders to commercial establishments such as hotels and tea stalls after refilling the gas in cylinders with capacity of 14.2 kg. He allegedly sold it at Rs.650 instead of the Bharat Petroleum fixed rate of Rs.450.

The seized cylinders were handed over to the District Supply Officer to take further action. The police have also registered a case and further investigations are on.
