Woman relieved

of gold ornaments

Two unidentified men relieved a housewife, Sunita Agarwal, 37, of gold bangles worth Rs. 25,000 after diverting her attention in the name of polishing jewellery at her Rikabgunj residence on Wednesday. The tricksters, both aged 22 years, asked her to put the bangles in a dish of water and keep a lid on it. When the housewife went inside the kitchen for a while, the duo disappeared with the bangles, the Charminar police said.

Three snatching cases

The spree of snatchings continued with three more cases being reported in the city on Wednesday. Two motorcycle-borne youngsters took away the `manglasutram' of a housewife, K. Vijayalaxmi, near her Lohiyanagar residence in East Marredpally around 6 a.m.

The duo approached her asking for an address and left. They later returned committed the crime near Deena Bank while the woman was returning home on foot.

In a separate case, two unidentified persons snatched away a gold chain from a woman, Sugunabai, while she was sitting in her groceries store at Bandlaguda in Chandrayanagutta.

The duo came on a scooter. The pillion rider asked the woman for some cigarettes. Even before she responded, he snatched her chain, ran towards his associate and both of them sped away, the Chatrinaka police said.

Impostor cheats bank

Routine inspection of documents has unearthed an alleged use an impostor to secure cash credit facility by a client in Vijaya Bank Basheerbagh branch. The bank authorities on Wednesday approached Saifabad police accusing a businessman, Anand, of cheating the bank by presenting an impostor as a guarantor.

According to the complaint, Anand produced property documents of one A. Srimannarayana Murthy for collateral security. A person claiming to be Murthy signed the papers before the bank authorities while sanctioning the facility in 2001. The bank authorities, during recent inspection, found that Murthy had died in 1999 and Anand allegedly used an impostor in the place of Murthy to avail of the credit facility.

Relieved of cash

Four unidentified youngsters, riding on two motorcycles, took away Rs. 15,000 from a marketing firm employee after intercepting his three-wheeler at Bandlaguda in the old city last evening. The driver-cum-salesman of a pickle-supplying agency, N. Krishna, 25, was going from Shamshabad to Saidabad to collect deposits from shops.

While two of them sat on the bikes, the other two snatched the bag containing cash, the Chandrayanagutta police said. The victim was a native of Ibrahimpatnam.

Labourer dies in mishap

A labourer of a steel rolling mill, Md. Zaphu Miya, 35, died on Wednesday after a heavy steel rod accidentally fell on him in the factory premises at Bahadurpura. He was walking out of the unit when the mishap occurred. The victim was a native of Bihar.

Man succumbs to injuries

A 65-year-old man, Chandraiah, who sustained injuries when his scooter skidded on the road near Rickshaw Pullers' Colony on February 20, died in the early hours of Thursday while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. The mishap occurred when his son was taking him to a doctor for treatment of fever, the Kukatpally police said. The victim was a resident of Jagadgirigutta.
