humidity

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1 degree Celsius and minimum of 20.5 degree Celsius on Thursday. Humidity, which was recorded at 80 per cent in the morning, fell to 44 per cent in the evening.

The following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Thursday: Groundnut oil - 49, palmolein oil - 39.50 sunflower oil - 49, tamarind (flower variety) - 21 to 26, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 35 to 45, chillies (refrigerated) - 18 t0 20, chillies (new)- 18 to 23, rice (2716) - 13, rice superfine - 14, Samba Masoori 15 to16, Sona Masoori - 15 to 16, black gram (pottu minapappu) - 21.80 to 24.20, red gram (kandipappu) - 22, red gram (Nagpur) 25.50.

Assurance to

teachers

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, assured a delegation of high school teachers that the Government would take steps to resolve their long pending demands, according to the Krishna District Teachers' Guild general secretary, Kolli Nageswara Rao, who led a delegation to the Secretariat on February 22.

Free eye

camp

A free eye camp was conducted at Chaitanya Thapovan, Tadepalli, by eye specialist, K.K.S. Chakravarthi (of Sri Devi Eye Hospitals), on Thursday.

Over 200 persons registered themselves and had their eyes examined at the camp.

Shifting of

power lines

The Southern Power Distribution Company Chairman and Managing Director, K. Ranganatham, said power lines will be shifted away from buildings for safety reasons.

Responding to a letter written by the Vijayawada MP, L. Rajagopal, the Discom chairman said that lines were laid prior to construction of buildings in the areas listed by the MP.

Yoga training

camp

The 13th camp of the Pranadatha Yoga Seva Kendram was inaugurated at the Paradise Hotel in Governorpet on Thursday.

Founding president of the yoga group, J. Basweswara Rao, and yoga exponent, K. Manikeswara Rao, were present.
