Misty morning forecast

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. It will be a misty morning for the Capital on Friday according to the Met office. The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky for the rest of the day with the possibility of thundery development or light rain in some areas. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 11 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Thursday was 23.2 degrees Celsius while minimum was 9.9 degrees Celsius. At Palam, the maximum temperature was 22.8 degrees Celsius while minimum was 9 degrees Celsius.

The maximum humidity at Safdarjung and Palam was 85 per cent and 92 per cent, while minimum humidity was 33 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.

White tiger cubs die at zoo

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. All the three white tiger cubs born to Swaraj and Kaveri at Delhi Zoo on February 14 have died after their mother abandoned them. By February 20 all the cubs had died after the zoo officials failed to procure a bitch to suckle them. "The white tigers have been breeding well, but we were unlucky with these cubs. We were hoping that the new cubs would help us prevent inbreeding and take pressure off the male white tiger Lakshman who with tigress Kico had previously produced five offsprings,'' said the zoo vet Paneer Selvam.

Woman found hanging

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. A 24-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his house at Hari Nagar in West Delhi today.

According to the police, Pankaj, a resident of Tihar Village in Hari Nagar, was found hanging from the ceiling fan around 4 p.m. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Pankaj had been married for the past seven months.

A case has been registered at Hari Nagar police station and further investigations in the case are on.

Theft charge, two held

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. Two persons have been arrested by the North Delhi police for driving around in a stolen Tata Sumo. According to the police, the accused, identified as Sanjay and Raju, were arrested from Sarai Rohilla on Wednesday around 9-30 p.m.

During interrogation, the accused also revealed that they had stolen a Tata Sumo from Rajouri Garden in West Delhi in early January. On February 11, they were going in the vehicle, whose chassis number and registration number plate had already been tampered with, when they were intercepted by the traffic police near Inder Lok in Sadar Bazar, North Delhi. Since they were not able to produce relevant documents, the police impounded the vehicle. Sarai Rohilla police have now taken the vehicle in their custody. Further investigations in the case are on.

Life term for murder

NEW DELHI FEB. 24. A city court today sentenced a person to life imprisonment for killing his business partner in 2003 in Srinivaspuri in West Delhi.

Additional Sessions Judge D S Paweriya held Ubesh guilty of murdering Mehboob after an argument over payment of a loan.

Ubesh was arrested on June, 20, 2003 at the New Delhi Railway Station.

He was convicted under section 302, 324, 342 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder.
