13 die in road accidents

BELGAUM/TUMKUR, FEB. 25. Thirteen people were killed in road accidents in Belgaum, Tumkur and Kolar districts in the past 24 hours.

Nine persons were killed and 53 injured in two accidents in Belgaum district. According to the police, four persons, including a woman and an eight-year-old child, died on the spot when a lorry by which they were travelling collided with a maxi-cab soon after crossing the Ghataprabha bridge on Pune-Bangalore Express Highway in Yamkanmardi police station limits at 3.30 a.m. on Friday. Twenty-four persons in the maxi-cab were injured. The dead have been identified as Shivappa Lamani (40), his wife Krishnavva Lamani (35), son Somling Lamani (8), and Tevarappa Lamani (45). They hailed from Katmalli tanda in Saundatti taluk.

Four persons were killed on the spot and 29 injured when the driver of a Tempo lost control and the vehicle plunged from the Indal bridge near Yamanapur near here on Pune-Bangalore Express Highway at 10.30 p.m. on Thursday.

Three in Tumkur

Three persons were killed when the motorcycle they were riding hit by a lorry at APMC Yard point, near Tumkur city, on the Bangalore-Pune National Highway on Friday. The police have identified as the dead as Vishwanath (24), his brother, Manjunath (26), and their friend, Chandrashekar (20).

The lorry with a Gujarat registration sped away. The police said the lorry was traced at Kora, 16 km from the spot. Its driver is absconding.

One in Kolar

One person was killed in a collision between two Tempos near Siddlaghatta in Kolar district on Friday.
