HUBLI, FEB. 25. Jagadish Shettar, President of the State unit of the BJP, has said that a team of Central party leaders will visit Karnataka to sort out the problems in the unit here. Mr. Shettar told The Hindu here today that the team is expected to arrive on Sunday, and the leaders in the State have been advised not to precipitate matters. Mr. Shettar said that the Organising Secretary of the party, Sanjay Joshi, is in touch with party leaders in the State. Mr. Shettar denied that open wrangling among the leaders will have an adverse impact on the prospects of the party candidates in the gram panchayat polls. Mr. Shettar said this (wrangling) may worry the party cadres, but the voters will not be influenced in any way. Unlike the Congress, Mr. Shettar said the BJP had carried out its campaign discreetly through the district unit presidents and other functionaries. But the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) went about the task openly. This will not help the Congress since at the grassroots level, the people are hardly bothered about the policies and programmes and are more concerned about what can be done at the local level in meeting their requirements. On the KPCC President, B. Janardhana Poojary's aggressive attitude ahead of the panchayat polls, Mr. Shettar said: "It may be because his tenure is coming to an end and he wants to be in the limelight."
