Letters to the Editor
Sir, The article, "Saving lives ... at what cost?" (Magazine, Feb. 20) rightly elucidated the problems faced by doctors working in the rural areas. Many villages do not have electricity even now. Where is the question of maintaining a proper blood bank as per the WHO guidelines? As pointed out in the article, rules should be relaxed so that the people in the rural areas are not denied urgent surgery due to stringent provisions.
C.P. Venkitasubramanian,
Sir, Vagaries of electricity supply in the villages and the prohibitive cost of diesel to run the generators make running a blood bank in villages an impossible task.
K. Kodandaramarao,
