NIZAMABAD, FEB. 25. Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on Friday, stalled the proceedings of the general body of the Municipal Council of Nizamabad by shouting slogans against municipal authorities for their alleged failure to reinstall the Nehru statue at the Nehru Park here. They raised slogans demanding immediate installation of the statue and suspension of the Municipal Commissioner, Sambasiva Rao, for his alleged remarks against the protesters. The proceedings were affected for about 30 minutes. The protesters pointed out that the statue installed three to four decades ago was removed three years ago in the name of beautification of the park in connection with the Indur Utsavalu. Then the authorities and the sponsors who had taken up the responsibility of park maintenance, promised to reinstall the statue after the celebrations were over. However, three years later neither the authorities nor the sponsors had taken steps to install it. Meanwhile, the statue was missing, the BJYM and the ABVP activists contended. The protesters relented only when the in-charge Chairman, B. Chandram, and the BJP councillors prevailed upon them.
